The book has plenty of twists and turns, a great pace for the plot and it is a gripping story - 5stars from me for this one and looking forward to book 5! In the beautiful rural Somerset village of Lower Hembrow, crammed full with English eccentrics, something is amiss. Then there were other little things like how both Belinda and Harry go poking around even in the police’s presence, or Harry’s being at a loss for explanations when a person is hurt because he’s only dealt with dead bodies—I mean he was a police detective not a coroner (also if this last instance was meant to be humorous, it didn’t really come across as that).

I really enjoyed this book, this is certainly a series I am thoroughly enjoying and was delighted to find out that hot on the heels of this book, the next one is due out very soon! When a suspicious death occurs there she is pulled into solving the mystery, along with retired police detective Harry Powell, a newcomer to the village. I have to admit I have become a fan of the Hillary Green stories and look forward to reading the next instalment, already sat on the shelf awaiting my attention. Belinda has her finger in a number of pies in the village plus she is trying to find out what mischief her brother, Marcus is up to this time. Nevertheless, tension was maintained with Hillary investigating her boss and possibly ending up in the proverbial for doing so. The author was trying to establish a romantic relationship between our two protagonists, but it missed the mark.That another murder has occurred doesn’t take much deducing: the knife sticking out of his back strongly suggests it was no accident. The plot is compulsive with some unexpected twists and turns and a very clever ending and moves the characters' personal lives forward in different ways.

He diedbeing prosecuted, however, the cops are still looking for his ill gotten gains and investigate Hilary. Janine is not impressed with having Hillary as her 'boss' and her relationship with Mel causes problems for everyone. Running an investigative team requires strength of character and a certain forcefulness and he’s rather passive as a personality. It didn’t help that the investigation into the murder of the politician was quite boring, although Hillary’s private investigation was a bit more interesting.
