The success of the MMDVM Project comes from countless hours of work by different people and projects going back to the earliest days on D-STAR. It featured a tiny LCD screen and an internal antenna, this didn’t perform too well to be honest and that was in part my motivation to build my very own. I was testing with a layout from another ham that displays a lot of information and I think the screen has trouble keeping up with the amount of data. Last Monday I’ve received my DMR ID and I’ve started to connect and configure my AnyTone AT-D878UV II Plus with my Hotspot ( hotspot MMDVM jumbospot P25 DMR YSF, bought on Aliexpress ). The MMDVM is a hardware and software component that can interface radios to a computer, like a raspberry pi, turning normal analog radios into digital radios, much like a TNC for packet radio.I have designed hardware so small you had to have a microscope the see it, all the way up to giant Telecom interfaces so big it requires two hands just to pickup the PCB. This is like the WiFi access point that you may have in your house for Internet access or a repeater that works via an Internet server. I decided that I’d like another hotspot to use with D-STAR as there are many reflectors not available through the local D-STAR repeater and I thought it might be interesting to listen to some of them. I like learning about new things so I contacted the author of the review asking for recommendations about hotspots and he suggested the Zumspot as being a decent pre-built hotspot that’s easy to get going.

The Raspberry Pi is a great piece of hardware for projects like this due to its cost, reliability, availability, and small size. The Zumspot has a similar configuration but instead uses a more advanced Raspberry Pi 3 or 4 board and generally has a larger display.

With my friend’s help, I tested the output frequency of the repeater/hotspot board without setting any TX offset and the transmit frequency (FRQ) was about 442. Net Hangtime is the amount of time the MMDVM waits after the end of an incoming network transmission from a distant station. This dual-band 144/430Mhz magnetic antenna measures 53cm (with magnetic base) and can be used with a walkie-talkie or mobile unit. That said, I want to first explain how I setup the enterprise WiFi for the Pi to work on Pitt’s wireless network.

Attention: Motorola ,Hytera DMR radios, as my experiences, there's always a big offset, And decoding is sensitive to frequency offset requirements (If you use AnyTone878UV, TYT MD380, or other China DMR radio, will better to decode DMR signal, and not big offset.

Remote Password – This is the password used by the ircDDBRemote application as well as the command-line Remote Control application. Using my cell phone’s hotspot (which I configured as an alternate wifi network on Pi-Star) I was able to drive and use DMR anywhere I went.
