A simple, engaging and highly effective way to help yourself, those you support and grow your business. Give your students the tools they need to calm themselves down with these 'I Can Calm Myself Down' prompt cards. And before you go, let me share the reason why I’ve always loved the graphics (pictograms) I’ve use for these cards. Sooner or later, we all have to face failure, disappointment, anger, anxiety, frustration, regret, rejection, or loss. The cards are used by thousands of people all over the world. We think that speaks for itself – but, OK, we get it. That’s only anecdotal evidence and you wanted the science. But let’s be frank, we are psychotherapists, not scientists so I’m not sure I’m going to be able to satisfy your request – yet.

Cards Against Anxiety: A Guidebook and Cards to Help You

The simplest way to use the cards is to begin with the blue “needs” cards. Stepping through each of the 12 cards and reflecting on how well that particular need is either met or unmet in your life right now will generate insights into what is causing you stress. You will gain insights into what is working well, and what areas of your life need more attention. Secondly, the “needs model of well-being” is just one of the fundamental organising ideas that underpins the human givens approach– and they have real data from thousands of people showing that this is an effective approach to well-being.that are included. The boy has been missing school for almost a year. My goal is to support him to attend school again. The boy chose the counting colours card from the card set and we practised it straight away. This is my favourite because people can sometimes get into a panic when feeling anxious and everything can seem to speed up and ‘close in’. This strategy helps an anxious person to slow things down. And by saying things really slowly, it gives you more of a chance to breathe deeply and/or calmly as you do so. In a review of the category systems that classify ways of coping, Skinner et al. identified 400 different ways of coping. The concept is inspired by the human givens approach. It was developed by Alec Stansfield and Bindi Gauntlett who are both Fellows of the Human Givens Institute (HGI). They have, between them, thirty year’s experience of using the human givens approach to help people in all walks of life. They developed this innovative tool as a practical way to teach one of the fundamental organising ideas of the human givens approach in a practical and “physical” hands-on way. A key motivation was the observation that many people can benefit hugely from understanding this model, regardless of whether they are interested in, or involved with any kind of therapy. This creative and practical tool can help individuals and groups learn how to improve the quality of their lives” Each card features a different strategy or technique to support the management of big feelings and enables children to discover solution-focused ways to ‘ride the wave’ of anxiety. The methods are based on proven approaches from cognitive behavioural therapy, brain research, optimism theory, mindfulness practices, interpersonal therapy and behaviour models. The strategy we choose will obviously be influenced by the type of problem we face and our own coping skills. We all struggle with our emotions sometimes, and children are no exception to this rule. Developing strategies to help children in your care calm themselves down when they are angry, sad, or anxious, can be an immeasurably valuable tool.
